A portable generator is a vital tool for powering your equipment, tools, and home essentials during outages or remote projects. With the Tomahawk Generator, assembly is quick and straightforward, ensuring you're ready for reliable power when you need it most. In this blog, we’ll walk you through unboxing, assembling, fueling, and starting your generator step-by-step for a safe and smooth operation.
You'll need the following tools:
- 13 mm wrench
- 10 mm wrench
- Needle-nosed pliers
Having these tools ready will make the process more efficient.
Step 1: Unbox and Prepare for Assembly
Begin by unboxing your Tomahawk Generator and ensuring all parts are included. Missing pieces can slow down your setup, so double-check your inventory before starting.
Step 2: Assemble the Wheels
- Remove the pins from the wheel bolts.
- Insert a bolt through the center of a wheel and into the designated hole on the generator frame.
- Add a washer to the bolt.
- Secure the bolt with a pin.
- Repeat the process for the second wheel.
Properly installed wheels make it easier to move your generator wherever you need it.
Step 3: Attach the Handles
- Align the handle’s holes with the mounting points on the generator frame.
- Place a washer between the handle and frame to allow smooth operation.
- Insert a bolt through the aligned holes.
- Tighten using the 13 mm and 10 mm wrenches.
- Repeat for the second handle.
Handles provide added control when transporting your generator over different terrains.
Step 4: Install the Feet
- Align the holes on each foot with the mounting points on the bottom of the frame.
- Secure each foot using a bolt and nut.
- Tighten with a 13 mm wrench.
- Repeat for the other foot.
The rubberized feet help stabilize the generator and reduce vibration during operation.
Step 5: Prepare for Fueling
Before fueling, place the generator outdoors on level ground, away from any flammable materials.
Important: Always operate your generator in a well-ventilated area to avoid carbon monoxide exposure.
Step 6: Fill Oil and Fuel
-
Oil Filling:
- Remove the oil filler cap and check the dipstick.
- For first-time use, fill the oil tank with SAE 10W-30 four-stroke motor oil up to the upper limit.
- Reinstall the oil filler cap and cover securely.
-
Fuel Filling:
- Remove the fuel cap.
- Fill the tank with unleaded gasoline, rated 86 octane or higher.
- Reinstall the fuel cap securely.
Proper oil and fuel levels ensure optimal performance and help prevent engine damage.
Step 7: Start the Generator
- Disconnect all tools and appliances from the generator’s outlets.
- Cold Start Procedure:
- Move the choke lever to the closed position.
- Hold the top handle securely.
- Pull the recoil starter grip until you feel resistance, then pull briskly.
- As the generator warms up, gradually open the choke to the open position.
- Once the generator is running smoothly, connect your devices to the appropriate outlets.
By following these steps, you ensure a safe, reliable start and optimal power output from your Tomahawk Generator.
