What is Coronavirus?
Coronavirus is a family or group of viruses that cause respiratory tract infections and gastrointestinal infections in human beings. The word corona literally translates to crown, signifying the manner in which the viruses seem to appear under the microscope - in the shape of a crown.
It is a novel discovery, also known as COVID-19, different to the earlier cases of coronavirus, which only caused mild infections in human beings.
What are the Symptoms of COVID-19?
Coronavirus is more likely to affect people with pre-existing medical conditions. The symptoms can range from a cold and fever, to as severe as multiple organ failure or even death. Here are some other symptoms of coronavirus:

How Does COVID-19 Spread?
First detected in Wuhan City, China, various studies and organizations have concluded that the virus has has caused more than 2500 deaths, globally. Being a zoonotic infection, coronavirus has the ability to transmit between animals and humans and also spread from humans to humans through various modes of close contact.
Where is Coronavirus Prevalent in the United States and the World?
The epidemic of coronavirus is widespread across 80 countries across the world. It is most prevalent in China, South Korea, Italy, Iran, Japan, and more. More than 93,000 cases have been reported as of early March 2020.
More than 15 states in The United States have been affected by this deadly virus. These regions include California, New York, Florida, Arizona, Washington, and more.
How to Avoid COVID-19?
It is very important to protect oneself from an outbreak of an endemic disease like coronavirus. Basic steps like constantly washing hands with soap and water, proper and thorough cooking of meats and poultry, covering mouths with a tissue while sneezing or coughing and throwing away the used tissue in the bin, using a disinfectant sprayer to sanitize objects, etc. should be practiced. Since no vaccine, as of yet, have been developed to prevent or cure coronavirus, here are a few ways by which people can avoid getting exposed to the virus:
- People who are sick should prefer staying home.
- Distance should be maintained from people who are ill and show signs of cough, cold or fever.
- Disinfect frequently used items at home, office, and elsewhere.
- Touching your face, mouth, and nose with unwashed and/or dirty hands should be completely avoided.
- Hands should be washed with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, rigorously.
How is COVID-19 Treated?
No specific treatment has yet been discovered to cure the coronavirus. However, medical care is cureently being provide to people who have either of the above-mentioned symptoms.
Should I See a Doctor?
Medical supervision is advised for anyone who has been in close proximity with a person diagnosed with coronavirus. A person who has been experiencing prolonged symptoms of fever, cough, difficulty in breathing or has traveled to an infected area, should also consult their doctors.
